Free AI Visibility Checker: 8 for ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude

For a free check of whether AI crawlers can reach your site, our pick is Cituna's AI visibility checker, no account needed. Then eight free checkers of whether ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude name you, read 28 and 29 September 2026.

Disclosure: VisibilityOS is published by the team that builds Cituna, one of the tools discussed here. Read this as our view, not a neutral review.

For a free check of whether ChatGPT's, Claude's, Perplexity's and Google's crawlers can reach your site at all, our pick is Cituna's AI visibility checker: it reads eight AI crawlers against your robots.txt, homepage, llms.txt and sitemap, with no account or card. To see whether the engines name you, only three free checkers we read list all of ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude with no signup: AIclicks for unlimited runs, Geoptie for a position check per keyword, and LLMClicks for testing five queries you pick. Mangools covers all three with a free account, and if you can live without Claude, Ahrefs gives the widest free snapshot (six engines) and SE Ranking splits citations from plain mentions.

Every checker below gives a one-off snapshot, not tracking. That is the main thing a free check cannot do in 2026.

How this list works: "Tested" here means one thing, and it is not running the checkers. On 28 and 29 September 2026 we read each free checker's own public page and recorded what it checks, which of ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude (and other engines) it covers, whether it needs a signup, an email or a card, its limits, whether results are tracked over time, and what the paid upgrade costs. We did not submit the forms, so we did not see their output and cannot judge its accuracy. We kept checkers whose page names at least two of ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude and gives a result without a card. The eight are ordered by how many of those three engines the check covers, then by what it asks of you (nothing, then a free account, then an email), then alphabetically. Cituna's free checker tests crawler access rather than answers, so it has its own section after the list.

Which free AI visibility checkers cover ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude?

1. AIclicks Free GEO Visibility Checker (best for unlimited free runs)

AIclicks' free checker reports mentions, citations, a visibility score per engine, the wording AI engines use to describe you, and the competitors named alongside you. Its page promises unlimited checks with no signup and no credit card, up to five target prompts per audit, and a result in about 60 seconds (checked 28 September 2026).

The page as we read it lists eight engines: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and Microsoft Copilot. A search listing of the same page named only ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, so confirm Claude appears in your first result before relying on it.

Paid tracking starts with Starter at $59 a month for 30 prompts on 3 models, then Pro at $189 and Business at $499 (checked 28 September 2026). Starter and Pro come with a 3-day free trial that needs no card.

Strength: unlimited runs, so you can check your brand, then each competitor, at no cost.

Limit: five prompts per audit is a small sample, and the free check's engine list is not confirmed.

Pick it if: you want to run many quick checks, for your brand and rivals, before paying for anything.

2. Geoptie GEO Rank Tracker (best for a position check per keyword)

Geoptie's free GEO Rank Tracker takes a domain and one keyword. It reports whether the brand is mentioned, how it is mentioned, the competing brands, your position inside the answer, a visibility score and recommendations. Geoptie also offers a free GEO audit, a content checker and a keyword finder.

It covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, with no signup or credit card (checked 28 September 2026). Grok, AI Mode and Copilot are not named. Usage limits are not published, and the page describes on-demand checks, not tracking.

Paid plans track any 4 of 7 engines daily: Starter at $41 a month or $490 a year (15 prompts, 2 brands), Professional at $83 a month (100 prompts) and Enterprise at $333 a month (400 prompts), checked 28 September 2026. No free trial of the paid platform is published.

Strength: five engines, Claude among them, and a position inside the answer, all without an account.

Limit: one keyword per run, so building a picture across many buyer questions is slow.

Pick it if: you care about one or two money keywords and want to see where you sit in each engine's answer.

3. LLMClicks Free AI Visibility Checker (best for testing queries you choose)

LLMClicks lets you test up to five custom queries. It reports mentions and recommendations, a Recommendation Score, how you are positioned against competitors, coverage across awareness, comparison and purchase intent, and the tone of the description.

It covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity, with no login, signup or card (checked 28 September 2026). Grok and Google's AI surfaces are not named. The paid AI Visibility Tracker is a separate product, and its price is not published on the checker page.

Writing the queries yourself matters. A checker that invents prompts from your domain can test questions nobody asks. With five of your own, you can test the questions your buyers type. How to choose the prompts to track covers how to pick them.

Strength: you choose the queries, and the report splits results by buying stage.

Limit: five queries per run, and no Google AI Overviews or AI Mode.

Pick it if: you already know the five questions that matter and want ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude answers for exactly those.

4. Mangools AI Search Grader (best for comparing many models)

Mangools' grader generates prompts for your niche and reports three numbers: Visibility (the share of prompts where the brand appears in the top 20), Ranking (its average position there) and an AI Search Score from 0 to 100. It also compares competitors.

The models are named precisely: GPT-5 Nano for ChatGPT, Claude Haiku 4.5, Gemini 2.5 Flash Lite, DeepSeek V3, Mistral Small and Llama 3.3 (checked 28 September 2026). The page says seven models but lists six. Without an account you get three (ChatGPT, Mistral and Llama), so Claude and Gemini need a free Mangools account, which also unlocks more searches. Per-day limits are not published.

Tracking is AI Search Watcher, and it has a free tier of its own: 5 prompts on 1 monitor, updated weekly, with no credit card (checked 29 September 2026). Pro costs $49 a month, or $34.90 a month billed annually, for 500 prompts. That makes Mangools the only tool here with a free plan that keeps tracking after the first check.

Strength: Claude, Gemini and ChatGPT side by side with open models, free.

Limit: these are small API models, not the consumer apps with web search, and there is no Perplexity or Google AI surface.

Pick it if: you want a quick model-by-model comparison and accept that the API models may answer differently from the apps your buyers use.

Which free checkers cover ChatGPT and Gemini but not Claude?

5. Ahrefs AI Visibility Checker (best for the widest free snapshot)

Ahrefs' checker reports total AI mentions, mentions by platform, the top 5 topics that trigger mentions, the top 5 cited domains and the top 5 cited pages, drawn from Ahrefs' own prompt database. It accepts a brand, product, person or competitor name, needs no signup, and sets no limit on how many brands you check (checked 29 September 2026).

It covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. Claude and Grok are not in the free check. The result is a preview, capped at the top 5 per section, and a one-time snapshot.

History needs Brand Radar. Its page lists tracking from $50 a month for custom prompts, the AI Visibility Index at $199 a month, and $699 a month for all models. Ahrefs' Lite plan at $129 a month includes 5 tracked AI prompts (checked 28 September 2026). The pages were not clear on whether the $50 packages need a paid Ahrefs plan. No trial is published.

Strength: six engines and cited domains and pages, for any brand, including your rivals.

Limit: no Claude, and every section stops at five results.

Pick it if: you want the broadest free look at where you and your competitors appear. Ahrefs Brand Radar alternatives covers the paid side.

6. HubSpot AI Search Grader (best for a sentiment score)

HubSpot's grader asks for your brand, location, industry and products, then returns a 100-point score with a written interpretation. Sentiment carries up to 40 points, presence quality 20, brand recognition 20, AI share of voice 10 and market competition 10 (checked 28 September 2026).

It covers ChatGPT (using GPT-5.4 mini), Gemini and Perplexity. Claude, Grok and Google's AI surfaces are not named. It needs no account, returns results in under two minutes, and is a one-time check. Any per-day limit is not published.

Tracking needs HubSpot AEO at $50 a month, or $45 a month billed annually, with 25 prompts across ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity (checked 28 September 2026). Its free trial needs no credit card.

Strength: it weighs how engines describe you, not just whether they name you. What is AI share of voice? explains the share-of-voice part of the score.

Limit: three engines, and no Claude.

Pick it if: you want a quick read on sentiment and plan to track a small prompt set in HubSpot later.

7. SE Ranking free AI visibility checker (best for citations versus mentions)

SE Ranking's free checker reports brand mentions and linked mentions, as counts and percentages, per engine, for your domain and up to five competitors. A linked mention is one where the engine links to your site, which is closer to a citation. What counts as a citation in an AI answer? explains the difference.

You choose from Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Claude, Grok and Copilot are not offered. It needs no signup or card and allows 5 checks a day, after which it prompts a 14-day trial (checked 28 September 2026). Nothing is kept as history.

There are two paid routes. SE Visible costs $99 a month, or $79 billed annually, for 200 prompts across the same five engines, refreshed daily, with a 10-day trial. Its page says Claude will be added soon. Inside the SE Ranking platform, the AI Search add-on costs $89 a month on top of Core at $129 (checked 28 September 2026).

Strength: it separates cited from merely named, and compares five competitors in the free run.

Limit: 5 checks a day, and no Claude.

Pick it if: you want to know whether engines link to you, not just mention you.

8. Semrush Free AI Visibility Checker (best for cited pages and topics)

Semrush's free checker takes a website URL and returns an AI Visibility Score from 0 to 100, mentions, citations, platform coverage, audience reach, your top cited pages, your best topics and a competitor comparison. It draws on a database of more than 26 million prompts rather than a few live ones, and has no sentiment (checked 29 September 2026).

It covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. Claude, Perplexity, Grok and Copilot are not in the free check. It allows three checks a day without registering, each a one-off.

The paid AI Visibility Toolkit costs $99 a month per domain billed annually and tracks 25 custom prompts daily (checked 28 September 2026). Semrush's knowledge base says the toolkit has no free trial (checked 29 September 2026). Semrush vs Ahrefs for AI visibility compares the two paid tools.

Strength: it names the pages that earn citations and the topics where you show up, from a large prompt set.

Limit: 3 checks a day, and no Claude or Perplexity.

Pick it if: you want to see which of your pages AI engines already cite, to decide what to improve.

Is there a free check of whether AI crawlers can reach your site?

Yes, and it comes before any answer check, because an engine cannot name a site its crawler was told to stay out of. Cituna's free AI visibility checker takes a domain and reads four public files, robots.txt, the homepage, llms.txt and sitemap.xml, then reports what eight AI crawlers, GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended among them, would find. It needs no account or card and stores nothing (checked 29 September 2026).

It reports blocking issues, things worth fixing and passes rather than a score, and a blocked crawler comes first. What it does not do is ask the engines anything, so it cannot tell you whether ChatGPT names you today; for that, use one of the eight checkers above. Robots.txt for AI crawlers explains which crawler does what.

Which free checkers did not make the list?

Search Atlas would be ninth under the rule. Its free report covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and an unspecified Google AI surface with no card, but its limits and upgrade price are not published (checked 28 September 2026).

The rest fell out on coverage or method, all checked 28 September 2026:

  • Siftly: its page title says ChatGPT and Gemini, but its method section lists ChatGPT and Claude. It runs 8 prompts across 2 engines.
  • Omnia: a 40-prompt sample, the largest free one we read, but it needs an email and covers neither Gemini nor Claude.
  • Birdeye: built for local businesses, and the free report covers ChatGPT only.
  • Rank Prompt: its page says results are "Estimated by an OpenAI model, not live answers".
  • Trakkr AI Site Grader: it tests AI crawler access and one unnamed model without search, not live answers per engine.
  • AthenaHQ Essential: a free tracking plan rather than a checker. It needs an account, gives 300 credits (one credit per AI response) and covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Overviews and Copilot. Whether the credits refresh monthly is not clear.
  • Otterly.AI: free GEO tools, but no free brand-mention check.

How do you check AI visibility by hand for free?

You can skip the tools. Open the free tier of ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude, ask the questions your buyers would ask, and read what comes back. It costs nothing.

  1. Write 10 to 20 buyer questions. Use the words a customer would type, such as "best payroll software for a 20-person company", not your brand name.
  2. Ask each engine the same question. Use a fresh chat each time so earlier answers do not steer the next one.
  3. Log four things per answer: whether you are named, your position in any list, the competitors named, and the sources cited.
  4. Repeat a few days later. Answers change from run to run, and with location, login state and personalisation.

The catch is scale. Say you ask 10 questions in 3 engines, 3 times each: that is 90 answers to read and log by hand, for one snapshot. Nothing is stored, and you get no share of voice or citation counts unless you build them in a spreadsheet. How to run an AI visibility audit turns this into a repeatable routine.

Which free checkers do the AI engines themselves name?

We asked the seven engines Cituna checks "free AI visibility checker" in our scans on 28 September 2026, one answer per engine (how we count). All seven named Ahrefs. Five named Semrush: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Grok and AI Mode. Birdeye was named by Gemini, Claude and AI Overviews. HubSpot's grader was named by Perplexity and AI Mode, and Omnia by Claude and Grok.

None of the seven answers named AIclicks, Geoptie, LLMClicks, Mangools or SE Ranking in its text, and none named Cituna. One answer per engine on one day is a snapshot, which is the point of the next section.

When is a free checker not enough?

A free check answers one question: are you named today? It cannot show whether that changes next week, after you publish a page, or after a competitor does. Every checker above is a one-off, and none keeps history. What is AI visibility? explains why a single reading moves so much.

You need tracking once you are making changes and want to see their effect, or once someone asks for a monthly number. That means the same prompts, run on a schedule, stored. What is prompt tracking? covers how it works.

Cituna is a tracked option. It checks seven engines daily from $39 a month: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Grok, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, with Google Search Console included (checked 29 September 2026). Plans cost $39, $119 or $399 a month. Separately, it writes the fix for each gap it finds and publishes articles, and MCP is included.

Where it loses to the free checkers: it is not free, and its 3-day trial needs a card. It does not track Microsoft Copilot, which Ahrefs' free checker covers. If a monthly bill is the blocker, the cheapest AI visibility tools lists paid tracking from $29 a month, and the best AI visibility tools for small businesses sorts them by budget.

Which free AI visibility checker should you use?

  • Whether AI crawlers can reach your site at all: Cituna's free AI visibility checker, no account or card.
  • Unlimited free runs: AIclicks.
  • A position check per keyword: Geoptie.
  • Up to five queries you write yourself: LLMClicks.
  • The widest snapshot without Claude: Ahrefs.
  • Citations versus plain mentions: SE Ranking.
  • Daily tracking once one day is not enough: Cituna, from $39 a month.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good free AI visibility checker?

It depends on the question. To see whether AI crawlers can reach your site, use Cituna's free checker: eight crawlers against your robots.txt, homepage, llms.txt and sitemap, with no account (checked 29 September 2026). To see whether ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude name you, AIclicks, Geoptie and LLMClicks cover all three with no signup, and Ahrefs gives the widest snapshot without Claude (checked 28 and 29 September 2026).

Is there a free AI visibility checker that covers Claude?

Yes. On 28 September 2026, AIclicks, Geoptie and LLMClicks listed Claude in their free checks with no signup, and Mangools covers Claude with a free account. AIclicks' Claude coverage was not consistent across our reads, so confirm it in your first result.

Do free AI visibility checkers track results over time?

No. All eight checkers on this list give a one-off snapshot and keep no history. Tracking needs a paid plan, such as Geoptie from $41 a month or AIclicks from $59 a month (checked 28 September 2026).

Which free AI visibility checker needs no signup?

AIclicks, Geoptie, LLMClicks, Ahrefs, HubSpot, SE Ranking and Semrush all gave a result without a signup on 28 and 29 September 2026. Mangools needs a free account for Claude and Gemini, and Omnia asks for an email.

Are free AI visibility checker results accurate?

Treat them as directional. They run a handful of prompts once, some use small API models rather than the consumer apps, and AI answers vary from run to run. We read each checker's page but did not run them, so we cannot rank their accuracy.

Can I check my AI visibility without any tool?

Yes. Ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude your buyers' questions in their free tiers and log whether you are named, your position and the sources cited. It costs nothing, but nothing is tracked and you need to repeat each question to smooth out the variation.

Is Cituna free?

Its AI visibility checker is: it tests whether eight AI crawlers can reach your site, with no account or card, but it does not show whether an engine names you (checked 29 September 2026). Cituna's daily tracking of seven engines, ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude among them, costs $39, $119 or $399 a month, and its 3-day trial needs a card.
