None of them re-checks your own queries on a schedule and stores the answers, and that matters: Ahrefs' study of more than 43,000 keywords, published 11 November 2025, found AI Overview content changed 70% of the time between observations. How we chose these checkers
A tool made the list when its own page, or a search listing of that page, showed three things: it checks Google AI Overviews by name (not a general "AI search" label), it gives a result at no cost, and it says what you get back. We then recorded what each one asks of you (nothing, an email, an account), its published limit and what the paid route costs.

Domain scans: which of your keywords show an AI Overview?
1. seo.com AI Overview Checker (best for finding which keywords trigger an AI Overview)
You give seo.com a domain and an email address, and it reviews the top 100 keywords that domain ranks for. The result states how many of those 100 show an AI Overview, gives a range for the monthly visits the domain is estimated to lose to them, and marks each affected keyword. It needs no login, no sign-up and no card, and the page states three free checks a day, so you can run your own site and two rivals on the same afternoon (read 17 October 2026). For a flagged keyword, a "View AI Overview" button shows which of the top 20 organic pages the Overview cites and what it says.
That makes it the quickest way to size the problem before you buy anything: if only a handful of your top keywords carry an AI Overview, a tracker is not urgent yet.
Where it falls short: it starts from keywords you already rank for, so it will not show AI Overviews on searches where you are absent, and nothing is saved between checks.
2. SEOmator AI Overview Keywords Checker (best for a second domain scan)
SEOmator lists a free domain check that returns the keywords with AI Overviews for that site (search listing read 17 October 2026). It is worth running next to seo.com, because two tools built on different keyword databases rarely flag the same set.
Where it falls short: the listing we read gave no limit, no keyword count and no signup rule, so check those on your first run.

3. Semrush AI Overviews Visibility Checker (best for mentions and cited pages)
Semrush's checker takes a website domain and runs queries tied to that business through Google, then returns a report. The page lists seven parts: a visibility score out of 100 that is relative to your competitors rather than a count, a competitor comparison, total brand mentions, the number of your pages cited, the queries where you appear, the AI Overview text itself for each query, and the queries where rivals appear and you do not (read 16 October 2026).
The last part is the useful one. Queries where a rival is cited and you are not are a ready-made content list. The page does not state a daily limit; Semrush's separate free AI visibility checker, which also covers ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Mode, allows three checks a day (read 29 September 2026). Ongoing tracking is the AI Visibility Toolkit at $99 a month per domain, billed annually.
Where it falls short: Semrush chooses the queries, so the report may leave out the questions your buyers actually type, and the score is relative, not an appearance count.
4. Ahrefs free AI Overviews Tracker (best for seeing who Google cites instead of you)
Ahrefs' tracker takes a brand name, needs no signup and returns results in seconds (read 16 October 2026). The report shows how many AI Overviews mention the brand across the keywords and prompts Ahrefs has tested, mentions month over month, and the top 5 topics, top 5 cited domains and top 5 cited pages. It draws on two indexes: short keywords from Keywords Explorer, and a newer set of long questions.
The cited-domains list is what sets it apart. If your own domain is missing from the five sites Google leans on in your category, you know where to aim content and outreach. Because it works from Ahrefs' own index, you can check any competitor's name too.
Where it falls short: every section stops at five, coverage is strongest in English by Ahrefs' own account, and daily tracking and custom prompts need Brand Radar, which Ahrefs sells standalone from $199 a month or inside Lite at $129 (read 28 September 2026).
5. Sitechecker Google AI Overview tool (best for cited pages next to rivals)
Sitechecker describes its tool as showing which of your pages Google's AI Overviews cite, how often your brand is mentioned, and which competitors appear alongside you, and a search listing on 17 October 2026 showed a free single check. Beyond that one run, the tool is part of Sitechecker's paid monitoring.
Where it falls short: the listing did not say whether the free check needs an account, how many keywords it covers or what the paid plan costs. Confirm all three before relying on it.

6. SE Ranking AI Overviews checker (best for a few exact keywords)
SE Ranking's AI Overviews tracker page offers a free check of five keywords, the tracker's job being to record whether each keyword shows an AI Overview and whether your site is in it (read 29 September 2026). Its separate free AI visibility checker adds Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, and allows five checks a day, splitting linked mentions from plain mentions.

Where it falls short: five keywords is a sample, not a picture, and the paid route totals $218 a month.
7. Geoptie GEO Rank Tracker (best for one keyword across Google and AI engines)
Geoptie's free tracker takes a domain and one keyword and checks Google AI Overviews with ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity in the same run, with no signup or card (read 28 September 2026). It reports whether you are mentioned, how, your position inside the answer, the brands named next to you and a visibility score.
Where it falls short: one keyword per run makes it slow for a full keyword set, usage limits are not published, and it gives no AI Mode result. Paid tracking starts at $49 a month, or $41 billed annually, for 15 prompts.
How to check an AI Overview by hand
You can do this without any tool, and you should do it at least once for your most important searches, because it shows you what the tools summarise.
- Open a private browser window, signed out, so your search history does not shape the result.
- Search the query as a buyer would type it, not your brand name.
- If an AI Overview appears, expand it and open the source links. Note whether you are named in the text, whether one of your pages is linked, and who is named instead.
- Repeat on another day and on mobile. The same query can show an AI Overview one day and none the next.
Google Search Console will not do this for you. Its Generative AI report counts impressions only and folds AI Overviews and AI Mode together, as our guide on how to track Google AI Overviews explains. And a mention without a link never reaches Search Console at all.
When a free checker is not enough
Each tool above answers "today, for these queries". That is enough to decide whether AI Overviews matter for your site. It is not enough once you change a page and want to see whether Google's AI starts citing it, because an AI Overview that changes between most observations will hide a real gain inside the noise.
